When planning your travel with teenagers, remember, they value their independence. Try to plan something that allows them to "get away" once in awhile, such as a private walk down a beach, bus ride into town, etc. Granted, you must feel comfortable with them out on their own, but giving them a little space can make a big difference in the outcome of your family vacation. Another tip - try not to make the entire trip educational (unless they want it that way!). Be sure to include fun excursions, sightseeing, theatre, shopping, etc.
Following are some suggestions for vacations with teenagers:
Skiing/Snowboarding: (Either domestic or foreign)
There are many ski "villages" in the US that have full communities in a resort setting.
Amusement Parks: (Disneyland, Disneyworld, Euro Disney, Universal Studios, etc.)
Any of these "playgrounds" would work for a teenager (even if they won't admit to it). They can spend a whole day with the family or by themselves without getting bored once. One suggestion - if your teenager is the only one in the house in the "teen" age bracket, consider bringing one of their friends.
Cruises: (you can start getting more exotic with Teenagers, such as windjammers, Nile cruises, Great Lakes cruises, etc.)
All-Inclusive Resorts: (ClubMed, Beaches, The Tyler Place in Vermont, )
Foreign travel: (maybe plan to coincide with something they are studying - France for French class, etc.)
Sailing School: (family program)
Watersports (rafting, snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, SCUBA diving)
EcoVacations: (Archaeological experiences, Earthwatch programs, such as tracking mountain lions, marine life observation, etc.)
Foreign Home Exchanges
City Visits: (New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, St. Louis, etc.)
Adventure: (Space Camp, Flight Camp, Hiking/Biking Combos, Dirt Bike camps, etc.)
